Robotic route for Polar pioneers ∞
An article on the BBC News website describes new robotic explorers that are being tested for the Antarctic, Robotic route for Polar pioneers. If we can send remote operated vehicles to Mars, then surely we can send them to the most extreme parts of our own planet.
This is a pretty cool idea (excuse the pun), and hopefully some interesting results will follow, which may lead to a better understanding of the Unexpected warming in Antarctica also reported by the BBC.
Every one of these “unexpected” results just highlights how little we really know about the Earth’s fragile climate. While we have computer models, that do their best to predict the future climate, we need to remember that they are just mathematical approximations, and we don’t really understand the complexities. All the more reason to protect the climate we have now, which although we might complain a bit, is pretty darn ideal for Homo Sapiens to exist.
